SEATTLE, January 10, 2004 — The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-0 Saturday night at KeyArena in front of 5,655.

"They are one of the best teams in the league and they are extremely disciplined in their game plan," said Thunderbirds head coach Dean Chynoweth about Kelowna. "That is something we are striving for."

Kelowna (33-10-3-0) took a 1-0 at 11:02 of the first period on a goal by Troy Bodie. Blake Comeau had the assist on Bodie's fifth goal of the year.

Kelowna took a 2-0 lead on a power-play goal by D.J. King 43 seconds into the second period. Shea Weber and Tyler Mosienko had the assists on the goal.

Zack FitzGerald had a tilt with King late in the second period that brought the crowd to its feet.

"Our shots weren't just going for us," said FitzGerald after the game. "We just had a tough time tonight. We couldn't get the puck to the net where we wanted to."

FitzGerald has been playing a physical game this year with Seattle but has managed to stay clear of some fights.

"I think I bring a lot more to the back end this year," said FitzGerald. "I try and stay on the ice as much as possible and out of the penalty box."

Bryan Bridges stared in goal for Seattle and had 23 saves on 25 shots. His record falls to 7-11-3.

"I thought he was good last night and good again tonight," said Chynoweth of Bridges. "You can't fault him on any of the goals."

Derek Yeomans started for Kelowna and had 25 saves to get the shutout. Yeomans record is now 2-2-0.

Seattle (12-21-7-2) takes on the Tri-City Americans Sunday night at KeyArena at 5 p.m. Seattle defeated the Americans on Friday night 2-1 in Kennewick, Wa.

"We know we can beat them. We need to bring the game we played on Friday night," said Chynoweth.
