August 2, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
FLORENCE, SC â The Pee Dee Pride announced today that they have re-signed left wing Jeff Szwez for the 2004-2005 season.
The 23-year-old began last season with the Dayton Bombers before being acquired by the Pride in a trade in exchange for Jade Galbraith on October 27. In 50 games in a Pride sweater, Szwez finished second in the team with 23 goals, and added 16 assists for 39 points to go along with 71 penalty minutes.
Szwez spent his first professional season in 2002-03 with the Augusta Lynx and the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey Leauge.
"We feel that Jeff is one of the most talented and exciting players in the ECHL," Pride Head Coach Perry Florio said. "At 6-feet-3, 215 pounds, he is a power forward with exceptional skill. In a full 72-game season I know Jeff is capable of scoring 30 goals."
In another move, the Pride announced that defenseman Mark McRae will not be re-signing with the team, as he has been accepted into medical school at Yale University. McRae played in 66 games with the Pride last season, tallying 10 goals and 31 assists. He was the Pride's lone representative in the 2004 ECHL All-Star Game in Peoria, Illinois where he registered one assist in the Eastern Conference's 7-6 victory.
"Mark is a tremendous individual and we are very proud of his acceptance into Yale's Medical School," Florio said. "While we are disappointed to lose such a quality defenseman, we are happy that Mark can now chase his dream of becoming a doctor."
Opening Weekend 2004 is right around the corner! The Pride host the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies on Friday, October 22 and the Augusta Lynx on Saturday, October 23. Both games start at 7:30 p.m. More details about Opening Weekend 2004 will be announced over the next several weeks.
Season tickets, flex plans and corporate partnerships for the 2004-2005 season are still available. For more information, or to place your order, visit the Pride office, located at the Florence Civic Center, or call (843) 669-7825.
