Syracuse Silver Knights News Release

Silver Knights take on Eastern Division rivals for first time this season

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Silver Knights look to get back to their winning ways on Friday as they travel to the capital of Pennsylvania for their first match against the Harrisburg Heat this season.

Syracuse suffered a home loss in its last game to the Florida Tropics. Seven second-half goals, including a hat trick from Victor Parreiras, propelled the Tropics to a 9-4 win over the Silver Knights.

Harrisburg comes into this match after suffering back-to-back losses to Monterrey last weekend. The first match on Saturday ended 5-2 in favor of the Flash and the second match on Sunday ended 10-5 in favor of the Flash.

Here are five things to watch for on Friday:

1. Total Control

Syracuse has dominated the all-time matchup against Harrisburg. The Silver Knights are 12-2 all-time against the Heat. Last season, Syracuse went 4-1 against Harrisburg. The lone loss came in Harrisburg, where the Heat won 10-8. Syracuse out-scored Harrisburg 38-30 over the course of last season.

2. First Bad Loss in a While

Up until last match against Florida, every Silver Knights game had been decided by one goal. The last time Syracuse lost by more than five goals was in the 2015-16 MASL season opener. Baltimore shut-out the Silver Knights in that game, winning by a score of 6-0. The largest loss last season for Syracuse was against Baltimore, when the Blast won 8-4 on February 17th.

3. Schindler Adds to the Offense

One of the positives that the Silver Knights could take away from its loss to Florida was the performance of Jake Schindler. The defender scored two of the four Syracuse goals on the day. He is now one goal away from matching his tally from last season.

4. Scary in the Midfield

The main offensive firepower for the Heat come from the midfield duo of Ricardo Carvalho and Thiago Freitas. Carvalho's 10 goals on the season puts him in a tie for seventh in the MASL. Freitas' 11 assists ties him with Kansas City forward Leo Gibson for second in the MASL.

5. Goals Might be Hard to Come By

The net-minders for both teams have performed exceptionally well this season. Hugo Silva for the Heat and Andrew Coughlin for the Silver Knights both rank in the top ten in the MASL in average goals conceded. Both goalkeepers also have a save percentage of over 70%, which places both in the top five in the MASL.

The match begins on Friday, December 15th, at 7:35 p.m. You can watch the match on MASLtv. Both teams travel to Central New York for their next match. Syracuse and Harrisburg do battle once against for the next Silver Knights home match on December 29th, at 7:05 p.m. For information on tickets, call 315-303-7261.
