Syracuse Signs Brandon Sugden

Syracuse, NY (October 15, 2003) – The Syracuse Crunch announced today that they have signed left wing Brandon Sugden to a professional tryout agreement with the team. The Crunch also announced that left wing Janne Jokila has been assigned to Dayton (ECHL).

Sugden, 25, appeared in 16 games in with the Verdun Dragons (Quebec Senior Professional Hockey League) last season, recording two assists and 120 penalty minutes. In 11 career American Hockey League games, all with the Worcester IceCats, Sugden recorded 56 penalty minutes. A native of Toronto, ON, Sugden was originally selected by Toronto in the fifth round, 111th overall, in the 1996 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Jokila, 21, made his professional debut with Syracuse on Saturday, October 11, and did not record a point. A native of Turko, Finland, Jokila signed an AHL league contract with Syracuse on August 18, 2003.

The Crunch host Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, October 18, Syracuse hosts the Rochester Americans at 7:30 p.m. for magnetic schedule night.
