Syracuse Crunch Announce Opening Roster

Syracuse, NY (October 3, 2007) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today their opening roster for the 2007-08 season.

Syracuse begins with 23 players on their roster. The roster includes 3 goaltenders (Tomas Popperle, Dan LaCosta and Adam Munro), 8 defensemen (Darcy Campbell, Jon Landry, Dan Smith, Mikko Maenpaa, Kyle Wharton, Andrei Plekhanov, Trevor Hendrikx and Jekabs Redlihs) and 12 forwards (Geoff Platt, Andrew Murray, Adam Pineault, Phillipe Dupuis, Steven Goertzen, Tom Sestito, Jeffrey Szwez, Derek MacKenzie, Derick Brassard, Kirill Starkov, Petr Pohl and Joakim Lindstrom). Twelve of the 23 players (52%) were members of the Crunch's 2006-07 team.

Syracuse's roster features 11 players with rookie status (Dan LaCosta, Darcy Campbell, Jon Landry, Miko Maenpaa, Kyle Wharton, Tom Sestito, Derick Brassard, Andrei Plekhanov, Trevor Hendrikx, Kirill Starkov and Petr Pohl).

The Crunch's roster features players born in seven different countries (USA-3, Canada-13, Czech Republic-2, Russia-2, Finland -1, Latvia-1, Sweden-1). The average height of the Crunch's roster is 6-1, the average weight is 194 pounds and the average age is 22.83 years.

The Crunch open their 14th AHL season on October 5 in Rochester. The club's Quickway Opening Night is set for Saturday, October 13 vs. Hartford.
