Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC get another home win and another three points!
The home-winning streak continued tonight for the Switchbacks FC. They beat Portland Timbers FC 2 by a score of 3-1 in front of a hometown crowd of more than 3,700.
"It was another terrific effort and quality game by the guys,"Â said Switchbacks FC Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "The guys are focused to get all the points they can at home. It was a tremendous effort by the whole team. These guys are focused to keep winning."
Switchbacks FC have been on a winning-streak at home since April 17th when they took on the Real Monarchs SLC and beat them 5-2.
Switchbacks FC started the scoring tonight in the 25th minute, when Miguel Gonzalez (#10) netted a shot through the T2 defensive line.
It was Gonzalez scoring again in the 35th minute with a cross shot into the right side of the net off a get setup by Switchbacks FC's Team Captain Luke Vercollone (#4).
The final Switchbacks FC goal came right out of the start of the second half when Vercollone again passed from the right side and Shin Harada (#21) buried the ball from 15 yards out.
T2 fought hard for the comeback, and were able to best the Switchbacks FC defense with a cross shot into the right side in the 84th minute by Brent Richards (#55). However, T2 ran out of time and the Switchbacks FC were able to hold on for the win.
"It was another great team win that gives us momentum moving forward to out next game,"Â said Switchbacks FC's Miguel Gonzalez.
Switchbacks FC (6-5-0) now have 18 points in the USL Western Conference, while Portland Timbers FC 2 (4-6-2) have 14 points.
"I'm from the Seattle area, so every time I play a Cascadia team it means something and I'm excited to get another great result in front of an amazing crowd,"Â said Switchbacks FC's Josh Phillips.
