Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release

Colorado Springs, CO - The Switchbacks earn revenge against Saint Louis FC, putting up a dominant performance in route to a 3-0 win Saturday night.

Looking to bounce back after losing to Oklahoma City Energy FC last weekend, the Switchbacks were motivated to get back to winning ways. This motivation translated into multiple opportunities in the first ten minutes for the Switchbacks. Saint Louis started to settle into the game but a penalty called for a foul in the box against Saint Louis let the Switchbacks jump in front 1-0 when Luke Vercollone buried the penalty in the 32nd minute. Vercollone was active throughout the first half that ended with another one of his shots being saved to go into the break at 1-0.

In the second half, Saeed Robinson kept the momentum going after taking the pass from Shane Malcolm and placing his shot perfectly where it kissed the underside of the crossbar on its way into the back of the net. That is Robinson's first goal of the 2018 campaign. The Switchbacks took advantage of all three substitutions in the second half since this was the team's fifth match in just 15 days. But Luke Vercollone stayed on the pitch and he got his brace, scoring his second goal of the game in the third minute of stoppage time from a Shane Malcolm assist.

The Switchbacks will now travel to face the Las Vegas Lights FC on Saturday, June 2nd. The Switchbacks return home on June 9th to face Swope Park Rangers on Star Wars night where the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a Saber courtesy of Penrose-St. Francis Health Services and Chewbacca warm-up jerseys will be sold with all proceeds going to the Penrose-St. Francis Cancer Research Foundation. Tickets start at just $12 and are available here. Fans 21+ can get $1 beer the first 30 minutes when gates open at 5:00 PM.

Post-Match Quotes

Steve Trittschuh - "We could've been up 3-0 at half. All-in-all, we'll take the three points because that was really important to us. The guys were tired, that was our fifth game in 15 days, so we knew they were going to be tired but they battled through it and I was happy for them to score the three goals but also get the shutout."

Luke Vercollone - "I felt we did well, I felt we deserved it. As always, our defense was amazing. And to finally get some goals to support them was well deserved. It's about time."

Josh Suggs - "What a relief, not even to just get the win, but to score more than a couple goals is a huge relief and to get that off our back is nice."
