Real Monarchs News Release
PORTLAND, Oregon - Real Monarchs SLC (8-2-1, 25 points 1 West) fell to Portland Timbers 2 by a 1-0 score line on Saturday afternoon, putting an end to the club's five match unbeaten run.
In the first half Timbers 2 played the aggressor, earning several breakaway chances towards the Monarchs net. No chance was bigger than Dairon Asprilla's penalty kick attempt in the 34th minute, a chance GK Jake Leeker denied to keep the score level at the halftime break. The Monarchs best chance of the match fell to the feet of FW Chandler Hoffman midway through the first half, but his side-footed effort slipped just wide of the T2 goal.
Timbers 2 earned another penalty in the second half as Renzo Zambrano slammed his spot kick off the crossbar in the 66th minute, with the Monarchs again escaping unscathed. T2 would make its breakthrough in the 77th minute when Asprilla snuck in behind the Monarchs backline and calmly slotted the ball past Leeker.
