Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release

Colorado Springs, Colo. - Put another three points on the board for the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC!

The Switchbacks dropped the USL defending champions, Sacramento Republic FC, 1-0 and are now leading the USL Western Conference.

The Switchbacks came out strong from the very start, and within three minutes Rony Argueta (#8) put the team on the board with a perfectly placed shot from 18 yards out.

"I'm really proud of the way we played tonight," said Switchbacks FC's Rony Argueta. "We knew coming in that this team was strong and solid. They had most of the possession, but we moved well defensively and got that early goal and were able to keep the lead and win."

It was that Switchbacks' defensive that helped seal the deal for the win. Goalkeeper Devala Gorrick played a large part in that, and earned another clean sheet.

"We fought like warriors tonight," said Switchbacks FC Goalkeeper Devala Gorrick. "It was a great win against a great team."

The Switchbacks (12-7-2) currently stand at the top of the table in the USL Western Conference with 38 points, five points ahead of Sacramento Republic FC (10-8-3). Five points are all that separate the top six teams in the Western Conference.

"It was a tremendous win for us," said Switchbacks FC Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "I asked the guys to play a little differently, and they did, which frustrated the Republic all night. We got the victory and now we have to turn around and do it again Friday, at home, at altitude."

Switchbacks FC will get a second shot at Sacramento Republic FC, this time at home on Friday, August 14th at 7 p.m. Join us at Sand Creek Stadium! Be that 12th man and help us "SAC the Republic" for a second time!
