Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
FOX CITIES STADIUM -- The Swing of the Quad Cities broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the top of the eighth and four runs in the top of the ninth to beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wednesday night at Fox Cities Stadium. Matt Lemanczyk hit a three run homer in the top of the ninth and Mike Sillman pitched 1-2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the win.
Wisconsin (48-42 overall, 9-11 second half) took the lead in the second inning. Mike Wilson started the inning with a double. Rob Johnson chopped a single through the right side of the infield to drive in Wilson for a 1-0 Rattler advantage.
Mark Lowe, in his second start since returning from the disabled list, worked three hitless, scoreless innings and struck out three for the Rattlers.
Roman Martinez entered the game in the fourth and kept the Swing off the scoreboard until there were two outs in the top of the sixth. Nick Stavinoha homered to leftcenter to tie the game 1-1.
Rattler reliever Donny Langdon got into trouble in the top of the eighth inning. After he recorded the first out of the inning, Langdon hit a batter and walked two to load the bases. Mike Ferris sent a slow grounder to second. The flip for the force play was dropped and by the time the ball was retrieved two runs had scored to give the Swing a 3-1 lead.
In the ninth, Langdon walked the leadoff batter. Calvin Hayes reached on a bunt. Then, Lemanczyk hit a three run homer to put Quad Cities up 6-1. Matt Shepherd followed with a double and moved to third on a grounder. Justin Jordan came out of the bullpen and gave up a sacrifice fly to Stavinoha that scored Shepherd.
The Rattlers went in order in the bottom of the ninth.
Game two of the series is Thursday night. Randy Frye (2-3, 6.23ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Michael Cooper makes his Midwest League debut for Quad Cities. Game time is 7:05pm.
