DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 3, 2015) - The 2015 Florida State League Postseason All-Star team was announced today by League President Ken Carson and featured one player and one coach from the Fort Myers Miracle.
Miracle catcher and utility man Alex Swim was selected as one of two catchers honored by the FSL. Swim, 24, appeared in 85 games for the Miracle in 2015 before suffering an injury that ended his season in early August. Swim leads the team in batting average with a .311 clip and has 13 doubles, two triples and 38 runs batted in. Swim posted a .349 on-base percentage and tallied 107 hits in 344 at-bats with 37 runs scored. A 22nd round pick by the Minnesota Twins in 2013 out of Elon University, Swim's batting average was listed as one of the top-10 in the FSL for most of the season until no longer qualifying due to total at-bats.
Manager Jeff Smith was named a coach on the FSL Postseason All-Star team. Despite his team not qualifying for the FSL Playoffs, the Miracle are currently tied for the best overall record in the FSL South Division at 74-62 with four games remaining. The Palm Beach Cardinals are 73-61. Smith is in his second stint with the Miracle after spending the 2008 and 2009 seasons in Fort Myers.
Dominic Smith of the St. Lucie Mets was named the 2015 Player of the Year. Charlotte Stone Crabs starter Jacob Faria and Daytona Tortuga right-hander Amir Garrett were named Co-Pitchers of the Year.
Clearwater Threshers skipper Greg Legg won the 2015 FSL Manager of the Year award. The Threshers won the FSL North Division first half title and have the best record in the league at 76-57.
The Miracle begin the final four-game series of the season tonight at Charlotte Sports Park against the Charlotte Stone Crabs. Two home games remain on the schedule. Friday, September 4 the Miracle host the Crabs at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday, September 6 the season ends with an 11:05 a.m. first pitch.
