
Sweets Take Series After Nail Bitter

Longview, WASH - The Walla Walla Sweets (5-4) jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held on against the Cowlitz Black Bears (5-4) to win by a score of 5-4. The victory gave the Sweets the series win over Cowlitz.
Walla Walla scored first in the third inning on an RBI single by Nick Nyquist (Gonzaga). They tacked on another run when Clayten Ayres (Georgia College and State) scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
Austin Kopacz (Briar Cliff) knocked in the Sweets' third run in the fourth and Zach Weisz (Cal State Fullerton) followed with an RBI single of his own. That made it 4-0 Sweets.
Hayden Duer (Cal State Monterey Bay) punched an RBI single into right center to make it 5-0 Walla Walla in the fifth.
Cowlitz fought back in the fifth with one run and then added one in the sixth and two in the seventh to make it a 5-4 game.
Kyle Narahara (Cal State Monterey Bay) came in for Walla Walla and threw two scoreless innings for a save and to finish off the win.
Nick Vigo (Cal State Monterey Bay) got the win for the Sweets after throwing two and two thirds innings and giving up three runs.
The Sweets head to Wenatchee next for three games with the Applesox. Walla Walla will send Connor Cannon (UC Riverside) to the hill for his first start of the season.
