Sweets Pitching Staff Gives Walla Walla Game Three Win over Bells
June 19, 2016 - West Coast League (WCL)
Walla Walla Sweets News Release
Walla Walla, WASH- The Walla Walla Sweets (7-8) used pitching and a long ball on Sunday to take down the Bellingham Bells (7-5) to salvage a game in the series.
Pitching was the story on the sunny afternoon at Borleske Stadium. Chris Murphy (San Diego) pitched five and two thirds innings on the day, giving up just three hits, one run and he struck out 10. That was the most by any single Sweet on the year.
Out of the bullpen, Justin Bruihl (Cal Poly) and Kyle Narahara (Cal State Monterey Bay) combined for three and a third scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. The team's seventeen strikeouts were also a season high for the Sweets as they increased their league leading strikeout total to 146 in 15 games.
On the offensive side, Chris McCready (San Diego) powered a two-run home run out to right-center in the second to give the Sweets the only runs they would need.
This game concluded a stretch of nine games in nine days. Walla Walla heads out on the road after a day off to Bremerton, WA for a match-up with the Kitsap BlueJackets.
