
Bells Offense over Powers Sweets 8-1

The Bellingham Bells (7-4) rolled to their eighth straight victory, defeating the Walla Walla Sweets (6-8) 8-1. The Bells used a five run fourth inning to power past the Sweets. Mitchell Robinson supplied the power for the rally, smacking a two run homerun over the left field fence for t he Bells' third long ball of the season.
Bellingham got on the board in the first. Andru Cardenas, in his first start since an injury in the opening series against Kelowna, led off with a single. Chase Strump walked and moved to second when Mitchell Robinson reached on an error to load the bases. David Banuelos hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Cardenas. Jake Vieth capped the rally with an RBI single to put the Bells in front 2-0.
The Bells crossed another run in the third thanks to a miscue from the Sweets. Vieth reached on a wild pitch after striking out and would come around to score on a Danny Casals RBI double. The Bells led 3-1 after two and half innings.
The Bells sent 10 men to the plate in fourth. Matt Ruff led off with a single and moved to second on a Brandon Shirley single. Ruff and Shirley moved 90 feet closer on a double steal to put runners on second and third for Cardenas. Cardenas brought Ruff home on an RBI single and Shirley would score a few pitches later on a wild pitch. Cardenas came into score on the Robinson homerun. Jake Vieth kept the threat going with a walk, moving to second on a Danny Casals hit by pitch and scoring on an Austin Shenton RBI single.
The University of Maine supplied two of the three pitchers for the Bells in the win. Connor Johnson tossed the first five innings and fanned three while allowing only run earning the win. Fellow Blackbear Jeff Gelinas pitched three scoreless frames while striking out two. Spencer Howard shut the door in ninth to close out the Bells' eighth straight win.
In the win, every member of the Bells starting lineup either scored a run or drove in a run in the 8-1 win.
