Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: A night after the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders had their eight-game winning streak snapped, a new streak began. The RailRiders topped the Indianapolis Indians on Tuesday evening, 3-1. Brett Marshall struck out a season-high eight batters to help give SWB its ninth win in 10 games.

BACK-TO-BACK & BELLY-TO-BELLY: Marshall (2-2) won for the second time in as many starts. In his first three starts, he went 0-2 with a 9.69 ERA. The IL hit .364 against him in that time. In three starts since, he is 2-0 with a 0.98 ERA. The IL has hit just .203 against him in those games.

MILLER TIME: Jim Miller struck out two in a perfect ninth inning last night for his team co-leading third save and third in as many outings. He allowed nine runs over his first two outings, losing on opening night in extras against Pawtucket. In seven appearances since, he has yielded just a single score for a 0.87 ERA. His strikeout numbers have also soared with 16 of them in the 10.1-inning span.

JUMP FOR ZOI: Zoilo Almonte singled in his first at-bat last night to run the league's longest active hitting streak to a dozen games. Almonte has hit .356 (16-for-45) with two homers, seven RBIs and three runs scored over his string of success. Almonte has reached base safely in 17 straight games as part of this run, the top on-base surge by a RailRider this season. Before Monday's series opener, the IL bestowed Batter of the Week honors upon Almonte for leading the loop in hits (11) and RBIs (7) from April 29-May 5.

LEAVING 'EM ON: The Indians left 13 men on base last night, including seven in scoring position. That included leaving the bases loaded in both the seventh and eighth innings. The team went 1-for-10 with men in scoring position.

TROUBLE AT HOME?: The RailRiders sit at 6-10 (.375) in home games with losses in four of five while they have gone 12-2 (.857) on the road including wins in 12 of their last 13. The splits back-up the records. At home, the team is hitting .216/.322/.308 and averages 3.1 runs/game. On the road, the triple slashes rise to .283/.354/.433 and the team posts 5.0 runs/game. Also consider that four of the team's five doubleheaders have taken place on the road, making eight of the 14 road games seven-inning affairs, while the only extra-inning game came at home. Only two active players are hitting above .250 at home. Eight of the 15 that have seen road playing time are hitting .302 or better away from Moosic.

HERE'S THE PITCH: The home/road splits skew for the pitching staff as well. At home, the RailRiders' arms have assembled a 3.57 ERA with 13 home runs allowed over 141 innings. On the road, the ERA plummets to 2.42 with only four homers in 108 innings.

OFF THE RAILS: A pair of number changes took effect last night for the RailRiders...Ronnier Mustelier has switched to No. 10 while Rapada will now wear the same number he had when he was in the Bronx, No. 39...The RailRiders improved to 18-1 when leading after seven and 10-0 when holding a lead after eight...They scored first for the 21st time in their 29 games...The team is 16-5 (.762) when it gets the first score...The team is also 10-2 (.833) when its starter goes at least six innings, as Marshall did last night.
