Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

Moosic, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) could not overcome Felix Pie's two-run home run, as they fell to the Indianapolis Indians (Pittsburgh Pirates) on Wednesday afternoon, 2-0. The game endured a rain delay lasting nearly two and a half hours, but was able to be completed.

The game's only offense came in the top of the third. With one out, Jared Goedert drew a walk off of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter, Graham Stoneburner. Pie followed with his second home run of the series, sending the ball over the left field wall and into the bullpen to give the Indians the 2-0 advantage.

The RailRiders offense was kept quiet by Indianapolis starter Kris Johnson. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre could only muster three hits off of Indianapolis pitching. Their biggest threat came in the bottom of the fourth. David Adams drew a walk with one out, and moved to third when Dan Johnson hit a hard single to left-center field. With runners on the corners, Johnson struck out Melky Mesa for the final out of the inning.

Johnson (3-2) earned his third victory of the season. He pitched five innings, and allowed just two hits. He issued one walk, and struck out five.

Stoneburner (2-2) was very effective despite being handed the loss. He worked five innings, with the Pie homer his only blemish in the scoring column. He scattered five hits, and walked only one Indianapolis batter. Sam Demel, Clay Rapada, and Josh Spence combined to throw four scoreless innings out of the SWB bullpen.

SWB and Indianapolis will now play the finale of their four-game set at PNC Field on Thursday evening. It will be a Thirsty Thursday presented by Budweiser, and Lost Sock Memorial Day. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive socks sporting the RailRiders logo. Gerrit Cole (2-1, 2.45), the first overall pick in the 2011 draft, will get the nod for Indianapolis. He was originally drafted by the Yankees in the first round in 2008, but elected to play collegiately.
