Swanson, 43, was hired by the Hurricanes in 2017 and spent five seasons as the clubs goaltending coach. During his time, the Calgary, AB, product helped development goaltenders like Harrison Meneghin, Bryan Thomson and Stuart Skinner. Thomson, Skinner and Logan Flodell all went on to sign professional contracts after working with Swanson during his time with the 'Canes, including Skinner being a finalist for the Calder Trophy as the NHL's Rookie of the Year in 2022-2023 with the Edmonton Oilers.

"We'd like to thank Kevin for his time with the organization," said Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt. "Our goaltenders always got better and better, year after year, under Kevin and we wish him all the best moving forward in his future endeavours."

Additionally, the Hurricanes have announced that 2003-born defenceman Nolan Bentham has decided to step away from the game of hockey and will not report to training camp and will not play the 2023-2024 season.
