
SwampBats Fall to Danbury

DANBURY, C.T. - The Keene SwampBats (21-17) dropped their third straight with a 9-2 loss to the Danbury Westerners (17-21) on a rainy Tuesday night at Rogers Park in Danbury.
Danbury scored three runs off of Griff McGarry (2 IP, 4 R, 3 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 3 SO) in the bottom of the first. A two-out, two-run double by Jake Frasca (Sacred Heart), followed by an RBI single by Nico Popa (Pitt) gave the Westerners an early 3-0.
The Westerners would add a run in the bottom of the second and two runs in the bottom of the fourth including an RBI single from Frasca to increase the lead to 6-0.
McGarry (Virginia) gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits while walking one and fanning three in 2.0 IP and was dealt the loss, dropping to 3-2.
The SwampBats came alive in the top of the sixth as following a walk to Brandon Smith (Dayton) and a single by Joe Breaux (Alabama), a groundout by Nick Romano (St Johns River State) advanced the runners 90 feet to second and third base. An RBI single by Lorenzo Hampton (FIU) plated Smith and Breaux, cutting the lead 6-2.
Danbury starter Brian Rodriguez (Northeastern) surrendered two runs on six hits to go along with two walks and five strikeouts over 6.0 IP to earn the win and improve to 1-2.
Randy Taveras (Marist) hit a solo shot as part of a two-run sixth to stretch the Danbury lead to 8-2.
RHPs Victor Danza (Lynn) and Erick Zecha (RPI) combined to toss 3.2 IP in relief, giving up one earned on one hit while striking out seven Danbury hitters.
Cordell Dunn Jr. (Grayson College-2-5), Hampton (2-3, 2 RBI) and Smith (2-3, 2B, R) had multi-hit games for manager Lyndon Coleman's squad.
