
Swamp Bats Stay Patient, Win 5-2 Over Vermont

The Keene Swamp Bats beat the Vermont Mountaineers 5-2 in the third meeting this season between the teams in a game that saw a little bit of everything.
Keene got on the board early in the first inning, getting a sacrifice fly from Connor Fitzsimons to bring home Garret Christman. Fitzsimons would once again stay busy in the 3rd inning getting a two run home run. Fitzsimons went 2-for-3 including three RBIs. He has 11 RBIs on the season total.
Ryan Karl continued his hot streak in the month of July and would also get a solo home run to extend the Swamp Bats lead to 5-2. The home run would be Karl's fourth in his last ten games.
The Swamp Bats went with Zach Willeman as its starter, who was also named the all-star today as the closer for the North Division. Willeman would pitch four innings allowing just one earned run and striking out two. Kyle Gauthier would come in for relief for Zach Willeman.
The Mountaineers would play small ball throughout the game with a run in the 3rd and 5th inning. Ridge Smith and Jack Parenty would be responsible for the RBIs for Vermont.
The Bats' would maintain their 5-2 lead for a better part of four innings. Kyle Gauthier would get the win, which is his third of the season Paul Covelle would come in to get the save for the Swamp Bats.
Keene improves to 8-18 on the season and now holds a 2-1 lead in the season series against Vermont. They have two days off before they head to Plymouth on Tuesday for their first meeting of the season.
