Keene Swamp Bats News Release

KEENE, N.H. - There seems to be an offensive power outage for the Keene Swamp Bats as they were shut out for the second straight night, falling to the Laconia Muskrats 6-0 in front of a packed crowd of 1,800 fans at Alumni Field.

With the loss, the Swamp Bats fall to 5-9 while Laconia improves to 6-8.

Keene was held to just five hits on the night.

The Muskrats were able to score at least one run in each of the first five innings.

Vinny Zarillo (Rutgers) lead-off the ball game with a solo home run off of Swamp Bats starter Michael Dunnigan (St. Leo) to right field off of the red barn beyond the outfield fence to put Laconia up 1-0.

In the second inning Laconia added another run to go up 2-0 when Jake Henson (St. Louis) singled to left scoring college teammate Braxton Martinez for their second run of the ballgame.

Laconia doubled their lead again in the third inning after the Muskrats were able to rattle off four straight hits with one out in the inning. Cornelius Copeland (St. Petersburg College) scored on a single by newly arrived designated hitter Colton Bottomley (Florida Gulf Coast) and Chris Beall scored on an RBI single by Ben Miller (Arizona State) made it 4-0 Muskrats.

The Muskrats were able to get single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to make it 6-0. Matt Byrne (Iona) led the charge for Laconia going 4-4 on the night and played terrific defense.

Dunnigan had a rough day on the mound as he only went 3 1/3 innings pitched giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits walking none and striking out two, throwing 70 pitches. He was pegged with the loss.

Laconia starter Jack English had a much better outing against the Swamp Bats than his first appearance against Keene. English went six shutout innings giving up two hits, three walks and eight strikeouts on 114 pitches to get the win and improve to 2-1 on the season.

Darick Hall came into the game with one out in the fourth inning to stop the bleeding. Hall went 5 2/3 innings pitched in relief, giving up one run (none earned) on four hits. He walked three and struck out seven.

Stephen Perez (Texas Tech) went 2-4 in his first game as a Swamp Bat.

Houston Droel (Angelo State) pitched three innings of relief to earn his first save of the summer.

The Swamp Bats travel north to Laconia tomorrow night to complete the second game of a home and home series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
