Keene Swamp Bats News Release

In a battle for first place in the Western Division it was the Keene Swamp Bats who put everything together on Sunday evening, turning in a very solid team performance, defeating the Vermont Mountaineers 8-0.

The offense, defense, and pitching had it all going, starting with Keene's starter Nathan Kirby.

Kirby, the left-hander out of Virginia, tossed seven and a third shut out innings, only giving up four hits and a walk as well as striking out seven along the way.

Jordan Simons, Louisville, and James Connell, Kennesaw State, came on to close things out the rest of the way for the shut out.

On the offensive side of things, it was Hofstra's Robbie Cafiero that highlighted the ballgame. Cafiero hit a two-run-homerun in the sixth inning and also had a RBI single in the eighth to finish 2-4 with 3 RBI.

Grand Canyon's Steve Swingle also had a nice evening, hitting his third home run of the season on a two-run bomb in the fourth, finishing 2-3 with 2 RBI.

The offense as a whole tallied 12 hits, and the eight runs were more than enough to secure the 8-0 victory.

The win for Keene (24-16) sees them back in first place by a half game over Vermont.

The Swamp Bats will have off on Monday, before welcoming the North Adams SteepleCats to Alumni field on Tuesday night for the final regular season matchup between the two Western Division teams. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
