Swamp Bats fall 4-3 to Blue Sox in the 9th Inning

The Swamp Bats fell 4-3 to the Valley Blue Sox in a back-and-forth thriller. It was the fourth meeting between the two teams.

The Swamp Bats would get on the board first, early in the 1st inning off of a Connor Fitzsimons sacrifice fly. The Blue Sox would retaliate with two runs including an RBI single from catcher Manuel Pazos.

The game would be tied 2-2 heading into the 7th inning and Chris Starcun of Valley would score on a solo home run shot but Keene would answer right back with an RBI single from Dan Cellucci in the bottom of the 7th.

A crucial error by Shane Matheny in the top of the 9th inning would set Valley up in scoring position, with David Petrino on second. Cornell Nixon would come in to pinch run for Petrino. Chris Gonzalez would get a base hit and then Chris Starcun would hit one deep into left field on a sacrifice fly to bring home Cornell Nixon.

The Swamp Bats would attempt a come back in the 9th inning and Lucas Luopa would reach on base for his fourth hit of the game. Garrett Christman would get a single but Luopa would be tagged on third base for the third out. Overall, Luopa was 4-for-5 and Garrett Christman was 3-for-5.

Lincoln Henzman started the game and pitched 4 innings, allowing two earned runs. Paul Covelle would get the loss.

The Swamp Bats are 0-4 against Valley this season and have fallen to 8-20 with 14 games left in the season. Keene will be back home and host Danbury Thursday night.
