Keene Swamp Bats News Release

The Keene Swamp Bats saw their five-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Vermont Mountaineers tonight, dropping a 3-2 decision to their Northern Division rivals.

Keene sits at .500 on the season at 11-11, while Vermont improves to 14-9 on the year.

Alex Caruso (St. John's) gave the Mountaineers the lead with a two-run triple in the bottom half of the fifth and scored on the same play on a throwing error by Swamp Bat centerfielder Alex Liquori (Kennesaw State).

Brady Sheetz (Hartford) had given Keene a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth scoring on a wild pitch after knocking a one-out triple into the right-centerfield gap.

An inning later trailing 3-1, Sheetz drove home the second and final Swamp Bat run of the night with a sacrifice fly that plated Robbie Coman (Virginia).

David Sosebee (Georgia) was charged with the loss for Keene, pitching six innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and striking out seven while not walking a batter.

Jack Roberts (Virginia) worked two scoreless frames and didn't allow a hit in relief of Sosebee.

Daniel Koger (Alabama-Huntsville) earned the win for Vermont, going the first 6.1 innings and allowed two runs on six hits, walked one and struck out three.

Ty Wiest (Columbia) came on in relief of Koger and picked up his third save, going 2.2 scoreless innings allowing one hit and striking out three.

Jarred Mederos (St. John's) paced the Swamp Bats offensively, going 2-4.

Keene will look to get back on the winning track as they take on the Newport Gulls in a 2013 NECBL Championship Series Rematch tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. at Alumni Field. Matt Blandino (Central Conn State) will get the start for the Swamp Bats.
