Suzdalev Hero, as Pats Edge Rockets in Overtime

Kelowna, B.C. - In what turned out to be an emotional contest, the Regina Pats upended the hometown Kelowna Rockets 6-5 in overtime at the jam-packed Prospera Place. With the win, the Pats improved to 3-0-0-0 on their West Coast trip.

Alexander Suzdalev scored his second of the game at 3:07 of the overtime period with the Pats on the powerplay to give the Pats the victory. Tanner Howe, Tye Spencer, Borya Valis, and Tanner Brown added singles for the winning Pats squad. Drew Sim kicked out 39 of 44 shots in the victory.

Andrew Cristall had five points (2G-3A) and led the way for the hometown Rockets. Max Graham, Caden Price, and Carson Golder also scored for the Rockets. Talyn Boyko made 28 stops on 34 Pats' shots in the loss.

THE GOALS

First Period

REG 1-0 at 9:42 - Tanner Howe (16), assisted by Stanislav Svozil and Borya Valis // Howe caused a turnover at the Rockets blueline and the puck got to Valis who sent a pass to Svozil and he teed one up for Howe as he one-timed the puck past Boyko to give the Pats a 1-0 lead.

KEL 1-1 at 15:55 - Max Graham (3), assisted by Andrew Cristall and Caden Price (5-on-3 PP) // Price worked the puck down low to Cristall who centered the puck to Graham who was standing just outside the paint and tipped it past Sim to get the team back to even at 1-1.

Second Period

KEL 1-2 at 2:06 - Andrew Cristall (17), assisted by Caden Price and Gabriel Szturc (PP) // Cristall dangled around the point and eluded a checker before he skated into the slot, and fired a shot past a screened Sim to give the Rockets a one-goal lead at 2-1.

REG 2-2 at 3:53 - Tye Spencer (6), assisted by Riley Ginnell and Alexander Suzdalev // The Pats entered the zone on a rush where Ginnell centered the puck to Spencer, who labeled a nice wrister over the glove of Boyko to tie the game up at 2-2.

REG 3-2 at 12:12 - Borya Valis (11), assisted by Alexander Suzdalev and Stanislav Svozil (PP) // Suzdalev's initial shot was stopped but the rebound was loose, Valis attempted to bunt the puck and got a piece of it to chip it past Boyko to give the Pats a 3-2 lead.

KEL 3-3 at 14:53 - Caden Price (3), assisted by Andrew Cristall and Gabriel Szturc (PP) // Cristall worked the puck around the top of the Pats zone, sent a pass to Price who ripped a shot past a screened Sim to tie the game up at 3-3.

Third Period

KEL 3-4 at 1:43 - Carson Golder (9), assisted by Marcus Pacheco // Golder drove wide past Corbin Vaughan, went in on Sim and put the puck up and over Sim's shoulder to give the Rockets the lead at 4-3.

REG 4-4 at 5:06 - Alexader Suzdalev (13), assisted by Stanislav Svozil and Borya Valis (PP) // With the Pats on the powerplay, Svozil sent a quick pass to Suzdalev who was able to walk in on the left wing and wired a shot past a screened Boyko to tie the game up a 4-4.

REG 5-4 at 17:32 - Tanner Brown (1), unassisted // Brown carried the puck into the Rockets zone and wired a well-placed slapshot top shelf over Boyko's outstretched glove to give the Pats a 5-4 lead late in the game.

KEL 5-5 at 19:08 - Andrew Cristall (18), assisted by Dylan Wightman and Gabriel Szturc (5-on-3 PP) // With the Pats down two men, the Rockets pulled their goalie and the Pats did what they could but Cristall made them pay, tying the game at 5-5 late in the game.

Overtime

REG 6-5 at 3:07 - Alexander Suzdalev (1), assisted by Connor Bedard and Stanislav Svozil (PP) // Bedard controlled the puck at the point and fed a nice pass to Suzdalev who ripped a one-timer past Boyko to seal the win for the Pats.

NOTES

Tanner Howe continued his hot streak with a goal. He now has points in his last three straight (6G-2A-8PTS) and has 15 points (9G-6A) in his last seven games.

Borya Valis has extended his point streak to three games (2G-4A) and has 13 points (6G-7A) in his last seven outings.

Connor Bedard extended his point streak to 24 games (22G-32A-54PTS) with an assist on the overtime winner. He has 30 points (11G-19A) over his last 12 games, 10 of which have been multi-point outings.

After having his nine-game point streak ended in Victoria, Alexander Suzdalev picked up two goals and two assists. He now has 21 points (8G-13A) in his last 11 games.

Stanislav Svozil picked up four assists to extend his point streak to five games (2G-10A) and continued on his torrid pace. He has four points in back-to-back games and is now up to 28 points (4G-24A).

Riley Ginnell has points in his last two games (1G-1A).

The last time the Pats played the Rockets in B.C. was just over four years ago on November 21, 2018, which was a 3-2 loss.
