Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Corpus Christi scored six runs over the first three innings and went on to defeat Frisco 6-4 Saturday night before 7,389.
The Hooks are 21-15, 2 ½ games behind the front-running RoughRiders (23-12) in the Texas League South. Corpus Christi has won six of its last nine.
Drew Sutton and Tommy Manzella singled to begin the first and advanced a base on Max Ramirez' passed ball. Ray Sadler and Ole Sheldon plated Sutton and Manzella, respectively, with sacrifice flies. Billy Hart drew a two-out walk, swiped second and scored on Chris Johnson's single.
Consecutive doubles by Lou Santangelo and Sutton and a ground ball out by Manzella pushed Corpus Christi's lead to 4-0 after two innings.
Rob Cosby's fourth home run of the year, a shot to left with Johnson aboard after a one-out double, increased the advantage to 6-0.
Frisco responded with a lone run when Steve Murphy doubled to left, took third on a passed ball and scored on Emerson Frostad's ground out.
Hooks starter Brad James (4-2) allowed a run on nine hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out seven.
James' counterpart, Jake Dittler (1-2) also went five and was responsible for nine hits, two walks and a strikeout.
Chris Davis' seventh-inning sacrifice fly sent Craig Gentry home for Frisco's second run.
The RoughRiders closed to 6-3 in the eighth when Frostad doubled and scored on errors by Sadler in right field and Sutton at second base.
Davis, who finished the evening with four hits, drove in Frisco's final run off Sammy Gervacio. Gervacio worked the final 1 1/3 innings for his third save.
Sutton had four hits and finished the four-game series 10-for-18 with eight extra-base hits.
The Hooks travel to San Antonio for a four-game series Monday. Corpus Christi left-hander Brian Bogusevic (0-2) faces Stephen Faris (1-1).
