Springfield Cardinals News Release

The Springfield Cardinals dropped their third straight game on Saturday night, falling to the first place Northwest Arkansas Naturals by a score of 10-2 at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale. The loss for Springfield (17-19) drops them to two games back of the Naturals in the North Division.

Naturals' starter Carlos Rosa was dominant over six innings, allowing just an unearned run on three hits. Rosa lowered his league-leading ERA to 1.20 with the effort.

Springfield allowed a season-high 19 hits to the Naturals, who have now won 11 of their last 12 home games.

Right-hander Adam Ottavino (0-4), making his first start since coming off the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, allowed five runs, two earned, over just 2 2/3 innings. The Naturals scored five times in the first three innings to chase Ottavino and take an early 5-0 lead.

Northwest Arkansas got four hits from former Cardinal Juan Richardson, who ripped a first-inning solo homer off Ottavino.

The Naturals scored in six of their eight innings, getting at least one run off every Cardinal hurler that pitched on Saturday night.

Steven Hill, who was one of six total player transactions made today by Springfield, homered in his debut. Hill, who cranked seven homers at Palm Beach ripped a solo shot to left field in the seventh against Julio de la Cruz, making it a 9-2 game.

In addition to activating RHP Adam Ottavino, the Cards brought up IF Steven Hill and IF Isa Garcia from Palm Beach of the Florida State League. Going to Palm Beach are OF Luke Gorsett, OF/1B AJ Van Slyke and RHP Josh Dew.

The Redbirds will take a day off on Sunday, then return to action on Monday night from North Little Rock, Arkansas, taking on the Arkansas Travelers in game one of a four-game series. Cory Rauschenberger (1-2) will take the mound against Travs' right-hander Fernando Rodriguez on Monday at 7:10pm from Dickey-Stephens Park.

Springfield will return to Hammons Field on Friday, May 16th for an AM Pyrotechnics Friday Night Fireworks Spectacular.
