Atlantic City Surf News Release
The Atlantic City Surf tied a club record by winning their ninth straight game against the Somerset Patriots before 4653 at Sandcastle Stadium Thursday night. Atlantic City''s 7-2 victory keeps the Surf three games in front of the Camden Riversharks in the South Division of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.
The Surf are an amazing 24-8 in the second half of the Atlantic League season and have swept three straight series. Atlantic City is now 28-11 under manager Mitch Williams since July 1 when Williams took over for Tommy Helms. Maximo Nunez went the distance to get the victory, scaterring five hits and allowing only two runs. Keith Gordon had a three-RBI night for Atlantic City, and hit a mammoth two-run homer to left in the seventh inning for Atlantic City. Atlantic City also got homers from Jose Velasquez and Pete Incaviglia.
The Surf now travel to Camden for a three-game showdown with the Riverharks. Saturday night''s game will be broadcast on WUSS 1490 AM. The Surf previously won nine straight in 1998 and again in 2001.
