Berkshire Black Bears News Release
PITTSFIELD-The Berkshire Black Bears came out onto the field like a team determined to win. Behind a solid pitching performance from Mike Minerva, that's exactly what they did. Michael Moore hit his 14th home run of the season, a grand slam, in the 5 to 2 victory over the Albany Colonie Diamond Dogs.
Minerva pitched 6 scoreless innings of two hit baseball. He walked only 1 batter and struck out 5 on route to his best outing of the season. Matt Bailie came on to pitch the 7th inning. He lasted 1 2/3 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 1. Closer Joe Cotton came on in the last of the 8th and finished the game. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 2 and walked no one.
Moore went 2 for 4 with his other hit a double. His grand slam gives him second place in the home run race in the Northern League. Carlos Polonco went 3 for 4, George Garcia had a single and an RBI, Darond Stovall doubled, Derrick Gutierrez and Josh Perich each had singles. The Black Bears now go on the road to Brockton, then Albany and return home next Thursday night for their final home series against Adirondack.
