Atlantic City Surf News Release

The Atlantic City Surf defeated the Pennsylvania Road Warriors 4-3 in 10 innings Wednesday night at the Sandcastle. The Surf''s victory combined with Camden''s loss to Nashua left the magic number for clinching the second half championhip at four. Any combination of four Surf victories or four Camden losses would give Atlantic City its first-ever half championship.

Atlantic City had to come from behind once again to get the victory. Trailing 3-1 in the eighth, the Surf scroed two runs off reliever Rafael Callazo after Road Warriors starter Tim Kester had pitched a masterpiece, only allowing on run on eight hits in seven innings. Pito Ramirez tied the game with a two-out single to right off reliever John Magieri in the eighth and the Surf won it in the 10th when Pennsylvania''s Matt Smith walked the bases loaded and then walked Victor Gutierrez to end the game. The Surf are now 38-15 in the second half and lead Camden by 6 1/2 games with 10 left to play. Craig Mattson got the victory for Atlantic City; Smith took the loss for the Road Warriors.
