Atlantic City Surf News Release
The Atlantic City Surf (22-18) scored two runs with two outs on two errors in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Camden Riversharks (21-18) 4-3 in front of 2010 fans Thursday night at the Sandcastle.
Trailing 3-2 the Surf tied the game at three on a throwing error by Camden shortshop Jesus Azuaje on a ground ball by Tim Garland and took the lead on an error by usually sure-handed Camden third baseman Lipso Nava off the bat of Ric Johnson. Both runs were unearned for Atlantic City in the eighth off Camden reliever Jarrod Kingrey.
Travis Thompson, in relief of Surf starter Anthony Chavez, got his sixth win of the year.
Kingrey took the loss allowing two runs, none earned in two innings pitched.
The game started as a pitchers duel between Surf ace Anthony Chavez and Camden ace Ben Simon.
Chavez pitched 7.1 innings giving up three runs on six hits while striking out seven.
Simon pitched a solid game for Camden allowing two runs, one earned on six hits while striking out seven.
The Riversharks hit two homeruns off of Chavez, a two-run first inning shot by catcher Angel Pena and a solo shot by Dwight Maness in the sixth.
Juan Thomas hit his 19th homerun of the season for Atlantic City in the second.
The victory gave Atlantic City a 7-6 edge in the Atlantic City Expressway Series and moved the Surf to within two games of first place Somerset in the South Division.
