Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Allentown Ambassadors led most of the way, but the Spirit tied the game in the eighth and sent it into extra innings, where the Ambassadors won 11-10 in the tenth inning Wednesday night in Allentown.

Allentown got two runs in each of the two first innings off Spirit starter Bryan Morse and the Spirit got two in the top of the second inning off Ambassador starter Chad Ward to make it 4-2. The Ambassador runs came on a double from Vic Davilla in the first, followed by a RBI groundout from Greg Schmidt. The Spirit scored on a two run home run from Bryan Caruso, his second of the season, but the Ambassadors immediately took the lead back.

And they would keep the lead, despite both teams piling up runs in the middle to late part of the game. The Spirit got one in the fifth on a Marcos Agramonte RBI single, while the Ambassadors added two in the bottom of the fifth, with a Jorge Diaz RBI triple and a Marlon Roche RBI single.

After that, with the starters out of the game, the two teams traded two run innings in the sixth and seventh innings. Then in the top of the eighth, with the Ambassadors up 10-7, North Shore finally tied the game again by scoring three. Jason Startari began the inning with a single, then Yuri Sanchez and Marcos Agramonte walked to load the bases. Reliever Joe Montgomery exited and Justin Keeling came in. He walked John Schmitz to force in a run, then gave up a two run single to Carlos Sepulveda to tie the game.

Neither team scored again until the Ambassadors won the game in the bottom of the tenth. Ender Gonzalez began the inning with a single and stole second. Vic Davilla walked, and Schmidt's bunt attempt did not succeed, with Gonzalez thrown out at third base. Diaz then singled to left field past shortstop Yuri Sanchez, who slipped and fell on the play, and Davilla scored the winning run. Diaz finished the game 3-6 with three RBI, a triple, two runs scored and a stolen base. Gonzalez was 4-6 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.

Keeling got the win, he is now 1-0 on the season. Joe Ricciardi took the loss, he is now 1-6. The win snaps a six game losing streak for the Ambassadors, who are now 13-23. The loss ends a six game winning streak for the Spirit, who are 21-14. The Ambassadors host Quebec for the first of three tomorrow night. Miguel Perez will pitch for the Ambassadors and it is Thunder Stix night, so the first 500 fans in attendance will get Ambassadors Thunder Stix courtesy of Service Electric.
