Surf Playoff Tickets To Go On Sale Tuesday

Atlantic City, N.J. - The Atlantic City Surf have announced that tickets for the 2008 Can-Am League playoffs will go on sale on Tuesday, August 19.

The winners of each half, along with the two teams with the next-best records during the entire season, qualify for the four-team playoffs. Quebec has already reached the playoffs, having won the first half. If the Capitales also win the second half, the three teams with the next-best overall records will qualify. The semifinals take place September 3-7, while the finals will be held September 9-13. Both rounds are best-of-five series.

- If the Surf win the second half, or if Quebec wins the second half and the Surf finish the season with the next-best overall record:

-Lower seed at Atlantic City, Friday, September 5, 7:05 p.m. (Game 3)

-Lower seed at Atlantic City, Saturday, September 6, 7:05 p.m. (Game 4 - if necessary)

-Lower seed at Atlantic City, Sunday, September 7, 7:05 p.m. (Game 5 - if necessary)

-If the Surf receive one of the two lower seeds:

-Higher seed at Atlantic City, Wednesday, September 3, 7:05 p.m. (Game 1)

-Higher seed at Atlantic City, Thursday, September 4, 7:05 p.m. (Game 2)

-If the Surf play Worcester in the first round, regardless of seeding:

Due to scheduling conflicts at Worcester's home stadium, the Surf will host games 3, 4 and 5.

-If the Surf reach the league finals:

-Team with best overall winning percentage at other first-round winner, Tuesday, September 9 (Game 1)

-Team with best overall winning percentage at other first-round winner, Wednesday, September 10 (Game 2)

-Other first-round winner at team with best overall winning percentage, Thursday, September 11 (Game 3)

-Other first-round winner at team with best overall winning percentage, Friday, September 12 (Game 4)

-Other first-round winner at team with best overall winning percentage, Saturday, September 13 (Game 5)

Playoff tickets will be on sale at all remaining Surf home games, at the Bernie Robbins Stadium box office during the day, by calling the Surf office at (609) 344-7873, or online at www.acsurf.com. Admission to all games will be $10 for adults, and $7 for children (12 and under) and seniors (60 and over). Tickets purchased in advance will be held at the Will Call window at Bernie Robbins Stadium. If tickets are purchased to a game that is not played, they must be returned to the box office by September 30, and their value will be credited to tickets for the 2009 season.

SURF TO PLAY IMPORTANT THREE-GAME SET VS. BROCKTON THIS WEEK

Currently one game behind Quebec for the second-half championship, and tied for second place with Worcester in the overall league standings, the Surf start an important three-game series against the Brockton Rox on Tuesday

The first game of the series is Tony's Tickets Tuesday; fans have a chance to win tickets to an upcoming area event. Wawa Wednesday takes place the following night, with coupons for $1 off sub sandwiches given to all fans as they leave the park. The season's final Thirsty Thursday will take place during the last home game of the series; all 12-ounce draft beers are $1 at the main third-base concession stand.

The starting rotation for the series:

Tuesday: Santos Hernandez (first start) vs. Rory Shortell (7-3, 5.62), 7:05 p.m.

Wednesday: Wayne Lundgren (8-3, 3.44) vs. J.C. Huguet (8-6, 5.11), 7:05 p.m.

Thursday: Mike Smith (1-0, 4.30) vs. TBA, 7:05 p.m.

NEWS AND NOTES

-Surf pitcher Adam Cox, sidelined for over three weeks with an oblique injury, is ready to return to action and is scheduled to make a relief appearance during the Surf's series against Brockton this week. Cox currently leads the Can-Am League with a 2.12 ERA to go along with a 7-2 record and 96 strikeouts.

- Atlantic City's starting staff continues to set down hitters; Cox, Brian Rodaway and J.C. Huguet are second, third and fourth with 96, 90 and 83 K's, respectively. Surf pitching leads the league with 521 strikeouts (6.7 per game). Rodaway also leads the league with 123.1 innings pitched.

-OF Josh Burrus and SS Anthony Granato are first and tied for second in the loop with 25 and 24 stolen bases, respectively.

-1B Eddie Kim has reached base in 25 consecutive games.

-According to Independent Baseball Insider, 33 independent baseball alumni have played in the major leagues this season. Among them are Philadelphia Phillies C Chris Coste, as well as 1B Mike Cervenak, who was called up to the Phillies in July, before being returned to Triple-A on Saturday. The Can-Am League currently has seven alumni in Triple-A and six in Double-A, as well as seven former umpires in affiliated baseball.

-New Jersey C Matt Lauderdale and Sussex RHP Matt Salvato were named the Can-Am League's Teamline Direct Batter and Pitcher of the Week. Lauderdale batted .500 in six games this past week with two home runs, seven RBI and a .875 slugging percentage. He collected 12 hits, including three doubles, with four runs scored and an on-base percentage of .538. Salvato becomes the third straight Skyhawks player to receive weekly honors. Salvato hurled a complete-game shutout against Nashua on Saturday, giving up three hits and three walks while striking out six Pride batters.

-702,116 fans have attended Can-Am League games this season, an average of 2,310 per night.
