CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (August 4, 2003) - Atlantic City scored the go-ahead run on an infield error as the Surf beat the Long Island Ducks 3-2 in 12 innings Monday night before an announced crowd of 6,137 at Citibank Park.

Ducks third baseman Tom Caputo mishandled a bouncer on the pivotal play.

Atlantic City (14-10) strengthened its position atop the South Division, moving 11/2 games ahead of idle Camden and Somerset.

Long Island took a 1-0 lead against Anthony Chavez on Javier Cardona''s home run in the second inning. Two innings later, the Surf went ahead 2-1 on Ben Candelaria''s seventh home run of the season.

Candelaria''s two-run homer was the only blemish against Long Island starter Bryan Rekar, who went nine innings and allowed seven hits and three walks.

Long Island tied the game in the seventh inning on catcher Jamie Pogue''s home run.
