The Atlantic City Surf defeated the Brigdeport Bluefish 6-4 Wednesday afternoon at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard before 5500.
Chad Gambill cracked a home run for the Surf and Atlantic City got a strong pitching effort from Brian Williams, who went six innings and only allowed five htis and one run. Williams outdueled Bluefish ace Alan Mahaffey who allowed four earned runs in six innings of work. Garry Lee Maddox had two RBIs for Atlantic City and Gambill was 3-for-5 with an RBI. The Surf also got an RBI single from an unlikely source, pinch hitter Randi Mallard in eighth.
Craig Mattson picked up his 15th save for the Surf, tying him with Camden''s Jimmy Williams for the league lead in saves. The Surf also got BIs fromo Enohel Polcano and Keith Gordon. Steve Hine was 1-for-4 and scored two runs for Atlantic City, which returns home to face the Nashua Pride Thursday night at the Sandcastle. Gambill''s homer was his 13th of the season. Incaviglia was 1-for-2 with two walks.
