Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

JACKSONVILLE, FL - The Jacksonville Suns (45-25, 81-59) held on to defeat the Mobile BayBears (37-31, 79-58) by a 6-5 final on Monday from Bragan Field to earn a second half Southern League South Division title, earning the Suns their first postseason berth since 2010. The Suns ended the regular season on a 10-game win streak.

Trevor Williams did not factor into the decision after allowing a pair of runs (both earned) on eight hits, finishing with a walk and six strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work.

Frankie Reed (W, 2-0) collected the win in the final game of the regular season, surrendering a lone run (earned) on two hits with one strikeout in his 0.2 innings of relief.

Collin Cargill (H, 6) retired both batters he faced in 0.2 unblemished innings of work.

Reid Redman (H, 3) worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning, striking out one batter in his inning of relief.

Matt Ramsey (H, 3) retired all three batters he faced, striking out one batter in the eighth inning.

Nick Wittgren (SV, 20) recorded his 20th save of the year after allowing two runs (both earned) on four hits with one strikeout in his one inning of work.

Graham Godfrey took the loss for Mobile after giving up five runs (all earned) on eight hits with a walk and five strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

The BayBears struck first on Monday with a run in the top of the first. Nate Samson came down to score on Dustin Martin's RBI fielder's choice to give the BayBears 1-0 lead after one half-inning of play.

But the Suns struck right back to erase the early deficit and take the lead with a pair of runs. A J.T. Realmuto RBI triple and a two-out RBI single from Brady Shoemaker helped give the Suns a 2-1 lead with one inning in the books.

Mobile knotted the game up at 2-2 on Mitch Haniger's RBI double in the top of the third inning, but were denied the lead on a perfect relay from Isaac Galloway to Austin Nola to J.T. Realmuto who applied the tag on Dustin Martin as he tried to score from first on Haniger's extra-base hit.

The game remained even at 2-2 until the Suns plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth. With two on and one out, Brady Shoemaker (HR, 12) drilled a three-run home run to left field, breaking the tie and putting the Suns ahead by a 5-2 score after five innings.

Mobile drew a run closer in the next half inning, with Argenis Diaz scoring on pinch-hitter Gerson Montilla's sacrifice fly to make it a 5-3 Suns lead in the top of the sixth.

The Suns got that run back when Viosergy Rosa (HR, 2) launched a two-out solo homer over the wall in right to push the lead back to three, with the Suns ahead by a 6-3 score after seven innings.

The BayBears battled to make it a one-run game in the ninth, as a two-out, two-run double from Brandon Drury cut it to a 6-5 game in the top of the ninth before the Suns held on.

The Suns have now punched their ticket to the 2014 Southern League postseason and are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
