Jackson Generals News Release

MONTGOMERY, ALA. (SEPTEMBER 1, 2014) - Dan Paolini (4x5, 2 R, 3 RBI) and D.J. Peterson (4x6, 2 R, 5 RBI) collected four hits each and Peterson hit two homers as the Generals (32-38/63-76) ended the season with a13-6 victory over the Montgomery Biscuits (31-39/66-74) Monday. Jackson pounded out 20 hits for the first time since scoring 20 runs on 20 hits in a 20-9 victory over the Carolina Mudcats on August 7, 2009. They also ended the season on a three-game winning streak and series win, the most since ending 2010 on a five-game winning streak. After trailing 5-1, Jackson scored 12 unanswered runs at one point.

The offense led the way Monday as Dan Paolini (4x6, 3 R) notched his second consecutive four-hit game. D.J. Peterson (4x6, 2 R, 5 RBI) also had four hits, two of them left the yard and nine of the ten batters used for the Generals picked up a hit. Pat Kivlehan (1x1) started the game in center field and was removed after a first inning single, finishing the year with a .300 batting average.

Jackson started the scoring for the second game in a row as Jordy Lara (3x5, 4 R, RBI) hit the first of his three doubles to lead off the second inning and scored three batters later on a base hit from Carlton Tanabe (2x5, 2 RBI) for the 1-0 lead.

Montgomery quickly answered in the bottom half as Cameron Sietzer doubled home Richie Shaffer and Justin O'Conner followed with a two-run homer and the Biscuits had a 3-1 lead. Later in the inning Jeff Malm scored on a Jake Hager base hit and the lead ballooned to 4-1 after only two innings.

An inning later, Montgomery added to their lead as Hector Guevara singled home O'Conner and the Biscuits looked to be in control at 5-1.

Jackson dented the scoreboard again in the sixth as Lara doubled with one out and scored two batters later when Patrick Brady (2x5, 2 RBI) singled to left field. That cut the lead to 5-2, but the Generals offense was not quite done yet.

After Tyler Smith (2x5, 2 R, BB) singled and Paolini doubled to open the seventh, Peterson homered to left and the game was tied 5-5. After Jabari Blash (0x6, R) reached on an error, Lara doubled again and both scored on a Dario Pizzano (1x4, 3 RBI, 2 BB) base hit up the middle and Jackson took their second lead of the game 7-5.

Jackson loaded the bases with one out in the eighth, and with two outs Lara was hit by a pitch that scored Smith. Pizzano followed with a walk that brought home Paolini and the lead increased to 9-5. Brady and Tanabe came up with back-to-back singles and the Generals had put double digits on the scoreboard with an 11-5 lead.

In the ninth Jackson scored two more as Paolini doubled for his second consecutive four-hit day and Peterson homered for the second time in the game and the lead increased to 13- 5 after the top of the ninth.

The Biscuits found the scoreboard for one more run as Taylor Motter scored on a Shaffer double in the ninth to make the final score 13-6.

Victor Sanchez (7-6, 4.19) made the start for Jackson but allowed five runs on 10 hits in 5.0 innings. He was relieved by Moises Hernandez (1-8, 5.93), who earned his first win of the year as he pitched 2.0 scoreless innings allowing only one hit. Victor Mateo (12-11, 3.90) took the loss for Montgomery as he gave up seven runs on 14 hits in 6.1 innings.

The Generals will be back in action on April 9, 2015 when they travel to Jacksonville to take on the Suns to open the 2015 regular season.
