Huntsville, Ala. - Nic Ungs allowed an unearned run and four hits while three relievers shut down any chance of a comeback as the Jacksonville Suns (79-58, 44-23) held off the Huntsville Stars (63-72, 25-41) with a 3-1 win in front of 1,039 Friday night at Joe Davis Stadium.

Ungs (10-3) scattered four hits while allowing a second inning unearned run with three strikeouts in the victory. Huntsville reliever Josh Wahpepah (1-2) fell in the loss after giving up a pair of sixth inning runs. Suns closer Matt Peterson (35) saved the game and now is one save from tying the Southern League single-season record of 36.

Huntsville opened the scoring in the second inning with an unearned run against Ungs. Lorenzo Cain reached on a one out error, moved to second on a Chuckie Caufield single and scored on a J.R. Hopf double for a 1-0 score.

Jacksonville tied the game in the fifth inning against Huntsville starter Brandon Kintzler as Matt Dominguez belted his second Double-A homerun, a solo blast to centerfield, tying the score at 1-1.

The Suns took the lead for good in the sixth inning against a wild Josh Wahpepah. The reliever walked the leadoff man, allowed an infield hit and walked Logan Morrison to load the bases with no outs. Mike Stanton next singled through the right side for a 2-1 lead. Scott Cousins then hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to drive in another run for a 3-1 game.

Suns RH Brad Stone will face Stars RH Josh Butler in game three of the series Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET. Live internet coverage will be available on jaxsuns.com.
