Pittsfield Suns News Release
The Pittsfield Suns (6-6) fell to the Broxton Rox (10-1) 5-4 Wednesday evening at Wahconah Park.
The Rox struck first in the second inning. After a lead off walk to Apolinar De La Cruz, and a single by Nick Johnson, Tom Stoffel doubled to plate both runs, setting the score at 2-0.
Brockton would add two runs that very next inning. Tom Marcinczyk and De La Cruz both singled and would each advance after a passed ball. Johnson extended the Rox lead to 4-0 after a 2-RBI single would plate both runners. They would add another run in the fourth inning, brining the lead to 5-0.
The Suns got on the board in the fourth inning, getting three runs back and cutting the lead to 5-3. Kyle Bartelman singled to lead off the inning and would advance to second as Derek Gardella was pegged by a pitch. Two batters later, Zach Tower was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Luke Reynolds who smacked a single to score two runs. The final run of the frame came on an error by Brockton third basemen, allowing Tower to score.
Pittsfield would inch closer in the seventh inning, and score one additional run, but the rally was cut short, the Suns losing to the Rox 5-4.
Justin Finan went five innings, giving up four earned runs, six hits, four walks and striking out two before recording the loss for Pittsfield. Broxton pitcher, Simon Matthews was credited with the win.
