BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Jacksonville Suns (32-30) could not secure a series win in Birmingham against the Barons, falling the finale of the five-game set by a final score of 10-0 at Regions Field

For the second time in as many starts against the Suns, Barons right-hander Erik Johnson stumped Jacksonville's bats, tossing five scoreless and hitless innings for Birmingham. Johnson walked four but also struck out five before giving way to the bullpen to start the sixth inning.

Suns third baseman Zack Cox collected the Suns' only hit of the game against reliever Santos Rodriguez with a leadoff single in the top of the sixth.

The Suns sent right-hander Robert Morey to the mound on Tuesday in hopes of earning a series victory heading into a crucial five-game home series against Montgomery. But Morey struggled from the outset, serving up a two-run home run to Trayce Thompson in the bottom of the first.

Up 2-0, the Barons added another two-run shot in the bottom of the second on Cody Puckett's long ball. Tyler Saladino made it a 5-0 Birmingham advantage on his RBI triple in the bottom of the third off Morey.

Morey would exit after recording just one out in the fourth and was eventually charged with eight earned runs after Birmingham tacked on three runs in the frame. Morey allowed the eight runs on just six hits, issuing five walks and striking out three.

Birmingham added back-to-back homers in the bottom of the sixth against Suns reliever Grant Dayton, with the first of the two coming from Andy Wilkins out to dead center field. On the play, Suns center fielder Jake Marisnick collided with the center field wall and appeared shaken up. Marisnick was lifted from the game as a result of the collision.

The loss moved the Suns to two games back of the first place Mobile BayBears in the Southern League South division with five games remaining in the first half of the 2013 season. After an off day Wednesday, Jacksonville comes home Thursday to begin an important five-game home series with the Montgomery Biscuits that will decide the Suns' fate in the Southern League South Division's first half.

The Suns will send right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (0-0, 7.94), with Jacksonville on a Major League rehab assignment, to the mound in game one of the series against Montgomery at Bragan Field, while the Biscuits are set to start righty Jake Thompson (6-5, 4.71). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. E.T.

Suns fans can listen to Thursday's game on the Suns Baseball Network, 94.1 WSOS-FM or through jaxsuns.com, MiLB.com or the Suns iPhone or Android app, beginning at 6:50 p.m. E.T. with the UF and Shands Suns Pre-Game Show.
