When Derek Michaelis doubled in a run in the ninth inning, he represented the winning run, but was left stranded in the Suns' 6-5 loss to the Greenville Braves in front of 4,293 fans Tuesday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Michaelis drove in the Suns' first and last runs with two doubles in his first game since July 19. He was on the disabled list with a strained abdominal muscle.

The Braves (47-59 overall, 21-16 second half) snapped a six-game losing streak and avoiding being swept by the Suns in a four-game series for the first time since 1998.

The Suns (52-54, 17-20) missed on a chance to get to .500 for the first time since June 29 and lost for the second time in 10 meetings with Greenville at the Baseball Grounds. The team left 10 runners on base, including seven in scoring position.

Suns starter Derek Thompson gave up four consecutive singles in the fifth inning, which allowed Greenville to tie the score, 3-3. The losing pitcher, Thompson (4-6) issued a home run, just fair, and just over the right field wall to Aaron Herr in the sixth to give Greenville its first lead of the series and a lead they would not relinquish.

With two outs in the ninth, Suns reliever Luis Gonzalez bobbled and dropped an underhand flip from first baseman James Loney, which allowed the Braves to score their sixth run.

Shane Victorino concluded the series going 10-for-16 with a home run, two triples and three RBI. Victorino, Michaelis and Sergio Garcia had two hits each to pace the Suns.

AROUND THE HORN: The team overcame losing Isauro Pineda to injury after two batters. He left complaining of stiffness in his pitching arm. ...2B Willy Aybar (headache) was a late scratch to the starting lineup and did not play. ...OF Daylan Holt snapped an 0-for-22 slide by doubling in the eighth inning. He scored on Garcia's single, but grounded out to end the ballgame with runners at second and third.

ON DECK: After an off day Wednesday, the Suns will host the Tennessee Smokies at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Left-hander Glenn Bott (3-7, 4.40 ERA) is scheduled to face lefty Randy Leek (1-3, 4.03). Leek pitched with the Suns earlier this year and in 2000 and 2002.
