Huntsville, AL– Birmingham (22-15, 57-49) knocked off Huntsville, 4-2, on Tuesday night at Joe Davis Stadium to take three of five from the Stars (20-17, 52-55) and move two games in front of Huntsville in the Southern League West second-half standings.

Birmingham jumped in front on Brian Anderson's first-inning RBI-single, and Scott Bikowski made it 2-0 with a leadoff homer in the second, one of his three hits in the game. Huntsville rebounded on Prince Fielder's sixth-inning solo shot to dead-center, his 19th homerun this season. After Baron Richard Paz made it 3-1 with his seventh-inning sacrifice fly, Ozzie Chavez singled in a run in the bottom of the frame. With one out and the Stars still threatening in the seventh, reliever Josh Fields fanned Joel Alvarado and Jim Bullard retired Tony Gwynn Jr. on a fly ball to left, stranding runners at first and third. The Barons picked up insurance on Bikowski's run-scoring double in the eighth.

Dennis Ulacia (6-5) notched the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits and no walks with six strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Jeff Housman (4-8) suffered the loss, permitting three runs on seven hits and two walks while fanning six over 6 1/3 innings. Matt Smith recorded his 10th save with two scoreless innings, giving up two singles and striking out one.

After an off-day for travel to North Carolina, Huntsville opens a four-game set against the Carolina Mudcats on Thursday night at Five County Stadium. Stars lefty Ryan Costello (6-4, 4.10) meets Mudcats righty Jason Iehl (0-0, 5.79). Game time is 6:15 p.m. CT and the FPH Financial Services Pre-game show starts at 6:00 p.m. CT.
