SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The Suns managed two hits in a 3-1 loss to the Tennessee Smokies in front of 6,614 fans Friday at Smokies Park. The defeat eliminated the Suns from playoff contention in the second half.

Smokies starter Nick Stocks (10-8) earned the victory by facing the minimum 21 batters through the first seven innings. After a first inning single and a leadoff walk in the second, Stocks retired 18 in a row before a solo home run by Brennan King in the eighth. It was King's sixth of the season.

With the victory, the Smokies (71-65 overall, 36-30 second half) have nearly assured themselves of a playoff berth. Orlando must win its five remaining games and Tennessee drop the final three to the Suns in order for the Rays to win the division.

Papo Bolivar singled home Kevan Burns in the first inning off Suns spot starter Greg Bauer to give the Smokies a 1-0 lead. Bauer (6-6) allowed single runs in the third (on Yadier Molina's RBI single) and the sixth (on Corey Erickson's sacrifice fly), posting a quality start while substituting for Greg Miller. Miller missed his second consecutive start with elbow tendonitis.

After a leadoff walk in the ninth inning, the Suns (64-72, 33-34) were retired in order by Smokies closer Josh Kinney who earned his second save.

Right-hander Heath Totten (10-12, 3.44 ERA) is scheduled to face Smokies righty Jeremy Cook (0-2, 4.26) at 7:15 p.m. Saturday at Smokies Park.
