
Stocks Leads Smokies To Victory

Sevierville, Tenn. - Tennessee came one game closer to clinching its first playoff berth since 1999 and for the first time since relocating to Sevierville, by defeating the Jacksonville Suns by the score of 3-1 on Friday night . The game was played in front of 6,614 fans at Smokies Park, the largest of the season. The Smokies can qualify for the postseason with a win over the Suns tomorrow night.
Kevan Burns scored twice. In the first inning he crossed home on a Papo Bolivar single. Later, in the third he was plated on a Yadier Molina single to give Tennessee a 2-0 lead off of Jacksonville starter Greg Bauer (L, 6-6). The Smokies added another run in the sixth. Bucky Jacobsen led off with a double and later scored on a Corey Erickson sacrifice fly making the score 3-0.
Nick Stocks (W, 10-8) pitched a gem, going 7 1/3 innings allowing just two hits. At one point, Stocks retired 18 in a row before surrendering a solo home run to Brennan King. Stocks gave way to Jeremy Lambert with one out in the eighth inning. Lambert retired both of the batters he faced. Josh Kinney came in to pitch the ninth and earned his second save of the year.
Tennessee will continue to jockey for playoff position tomorrow night as they play host to Jacksonville in game two of a four game series. Jeremy Cook (0-2, 4.26) will take the hill for the Smokies against Heath Totten (10-12, 3.44). The Suns were eliminated from playoff contention in the loss.
