Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. â Greenville Braves shortstop Kelly Johnson drove in five runs in a 7-1 victory over the Suns in front of 10,253 fans Saturday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
In the first inning, Johnson hit a two-run single following one of four Suns errors to give the Braves a 2-0 lead off spot starter Greg Bauer. Bauer (6-5) earned the loss despite allowing one earned run over five innings. Bauer walked Johnson with the bases loaded in the second inning to give Greenville (63-67 overall, 27-35 second half) a 3-0 advantage.
The Suns (62-69, 31-31) retaliated with a run in the bottom of the inning when Derek Michaelis hit an opposite-field, line drive home run off Braves starter Daniel Curtis. Curtis (5-3) pitched seven innings to earn the victory.
The Braves extended their lead off Suns reliever Lino Urdaneta. He gave up an RBI double to Bryce Terveen in the sixth and a mammoth two-run home run to Johnson in the seventh. In the eighth, Curtis grounded into a double play with the bases loaded to cap the scoring.
After a travel day Sunday, right-hander Heath Totten (10-11, 3.31 ERA) is scheduled to face West Tenn Diamond Jaxx lefty Felix Sanchez (1-2, 3.28) at 7:05 CT Monday at Pringles Park.
