Hagerstown Suns News Release

(HAGERSTOWN, MD) - The Hagerstown Suns (20-20) used clutch hitting to defeat the Kannapolis Intimidators (19-21) 8-5. Hagerstown scored seven of their eight runs with two outs, and Colton Willems (3-3) picked up the win with seven effective innings of work. Nathan Jones (1-4) took the loss for the Intimidators.

The Suns struck early with a run in the bottom of the first. After a walk and stolen base by Dan Lyons, designated hitter Tim Pahuta drove him in with a single to centerfield.

Hagerstown put up four more runs in the second. Michael Burgess led off the inning with a leadoff home run, his tenth of the year. Aaron Seuss followed with a double and scored on Brandon Whiting's first triple of the season. Lyons hit his fourth long ball of the year to right-center field to open up a five to nothing lead.

Kannapolis then scored five straight to tie the ball game. Three of those runs came in the fourth inning on a Jose Martinez home run. It was the second home run of the year for Martinez.

With the game tied in the sixth, Hagerstown took the lead for good. Third baseman Stephen King singled to start the inning and then scored on a Jake Smolinski double. Catcher Travis Reagan then hit his first professional home run just inside the right field foul pole for the 8-5 lead.

Martin Beno got the final two outs of the inning to record his sixth save of the year.

The Suns and Intimidators square off tomorrow night at 6:35 from Municipal Stadium for game two of the series.
