Hagerstown Suns News Release
LEXINGTON, KY - The Hagerstown Suns (19-20) escaped Lexington with a win after Tim Pahuta hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give the Suns a 7-6 victory over the Legends (12-27).
The home run, Pahuta's fifth of the season, came after Dan Lyons tripled to lead off the 9th inning, and Hagerstown manager Darnell Coles used Pahuta to pinch-hit for DH Aaron Seuss. Pahuta had faced the pitcher Jay Pacella two days earlier and recorded a hit, and it was on the first pitch from the right-hander Pacella that Pahuta hit the game-winning blast.
Martin Beno closed the door on the Legends to earn his fifth save of the season, but not before loading the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Cole Kimball started the game for Hagerstown and was very effective, pitching five and one third innings and allowing just five hits and two earned runs. Kimball did not allow a hit until the bottom of the fifth inning.
Erik Arnesen (3-0) earned the win for the Suns, pitching a perfect eighth inning of relief.
Pacella (0-2) took the loss for the Legends.
The Suns got excellent offensive performances from left fielder Boomer Whiting and Lyons at the top of the order. Whiting had four hits and scored two runs while Lyons had two hits including the triple in the top of the ninth inning.
The Suns return to Hagerstown and will take on the Kannapolis Intimidators on Friday, May 16th at 6:35 P.M. Gates will open at Municipal Stadium at 5:35 P.M.
The Hagerstown Suns play at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD and are a Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
