Hagerstown Suns News Release
ASTLAKE, OH - The Hagerstown Suns (34-35) beat the Lake County Captains (41-29) by a score of 6-2 in the final game of the first half of the season.
Erik Arnesen (6-1) got the spot-start for Hagerstown and pitched very well. Arnesen lasted five innings and allowed just one earned run in his second start of the season. He also struck out six batters while allowing just one walk.
The lone run surrendered by Arnesen came in the bottom of the fourth inning on a home run by Karexon Sanchez. It was Sanchez's sixth home run of the season and made the score 2-1, after the Suns scored single runs in the second and third innings.
Hagerstown opened the scoring in the top of the second as Stephen King doubled to lead off the frame and was driven in on a ground ball to the second baseman by Sean Rooney. The Suns made it 2-0 an inning later after Boomer Whiting singled, stole second base and eventually scored on a passed ball.
After Lake County closed the gap to 2-1, the Suns offense got three runs on four hits in the top of the fifth inning. The big hit was a single by Aaron Seuss that brought in two runs.
Michael Burgess hit a long home run to right field, his 14th of the season, to give the Suns a 6-1 lead.
Edulin Abreu pitched the final two innings of the game, taking over from Dan Leatherman who tossed two scoreless innings in relief, and allowed one unearned run in closing out the Captains.
Joey Mahalic took the loss for Lake County. He started the game, pitched into the fifth inning and allowed five runs, four of them earned, in the game.
