
GreenJackets Fall in Final Game of First Half

Greenville, SC - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28) finished the first half of the season with a 7-5 loss to the Greenville Drive (40-30) on Sunday. Angel Villalona homered and drove in three runs while Daryl Maday worked seven innings for a third straight start for the no-decision.
Augusta took a 3-2 lead into the eighth inning but the Drive plated five runs as Augusta used three different pitchers to take a 7-2 lead. Andrew De La Garza (5-1) suffered the loss allowing four runs on three hits including a three run homer to Ty Weeden that capped off the scoring.
Orlando Yntema began the inning retiring the first out but then walked a batter. De La Garza came in and got the second out but then allowed a single, hit a batter and David Mailman came through a two-run double for a 4-3 lead. Weeden followed with his seventh homer of the season.
Villalona had a two-run homer in the ninth inning to pull Augusta to within 7-5 but that was as close as Augusta would get.
The GreenJackets took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI sac-fly to center from Eliezer Alfonzo and a fielder's choice from Brock Bond.
The Drive tied it at 2-2 in the bottom of the first inning on back-to-back RBI doubles from Ryan Kalish and Mike Jones.
The GreenJackets took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning on an RBI sac fly from Villalona.
Maday worked seven innings for the no-decision allowing two runs on six hits. The right-hander walked two and struck out three.
The GreenJackets have three days off for the South Atlantic League All-Star break. Starters Daryl Maday and Madison Bumgarner along with closer Daniel Otero and manager Andy Skeels were all selected to participate in the All-Star Game in Greensboro, NC this week.
The GreenJackets will begin the second half of the season on Thursday, June 19 with the first of an eight game home stand. The Asheville Tourists will be in town for five days to begin the home stand followed by three games against the Greenville Drive.
Game Notes:
Augusta finished the six game road trip 4-2
Nick Noonan did not play in the game keeping his 13 game hit streak alive.
Augusta fell to 33-2 when leading after seven innings. Both losses were to Greenville.
