Suns Clinch Series with Dominating Offensive Performance

Montgomery, Ala. - The Jacksonville Suns (12-8) used 19 hits, including two homeruns from Lee Mitchell and a four RBI effort from Scott Cousins, in a 13-7, series-clinching victory over the Montgomery Biscuits (8-12) in front of 3,213 Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Suns starter Cristhian Martinez (3-1) allowed two runs and seven hits over seven innings, the longest outing for any Jacksonville starter in 2009. The right-hander struck out six without a walk and dealt 95 pitches.

Montgomery starter Jason Cromer (1-1) fell in the defeat in his second Southern League start of the season, allowing seven runs and ten hits over three and two-thirds innings. Cromer started two games in Triple-A, before being sent back to Montgomery for his sixth different Southern League season.

Jacksonville scored in every inning except the sixth, eighth and ninth.

Offensive leaders for the Suns included leadoff hitter Scott Cousins, who finished three-for-six with a homerun and four RBI. The left-handed hitter finished a single short of the cycle. Lee Mitchell belted two homeruns, a two-run blast in the first inning and a solo shot in the third inning. Andy Jenkins broke through with four hits, including three doubles, while Matt Craig and Lorenzo Scott contributed three hits each.

The teams combined for 17 extra-base hits, two short of the Southern League record for extra-base hits in a single game combined.
