Suns Capitalize on BayBears Mistakes for Saturday Win

Jacksonville, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns (13-10) took advantage of four Mobile BayBears (15-8) errors, using two big innings for a 7-4 victory in front of 6,587 on Saturday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Suns reliever Adalberto Mendez (1-1) picked up the win, dealing one and one-thirds hitless innings behind starter Kasey Olenberger. The spot starter lasted three and two-thirds innings in place of Willie Glen, who was placed on the disabled list earlier in the week.

Mobile starter Jarrod Parker (0-1) fell in defeat in his first Double-A outing. The Diamondbacks top prospect, Parker allowed four runs, one earned, and eight hits over four and one-thirds innings. The 20-year-old dealt 89 pitches with 52 strikes in the loss.

Jacksonville reliever Jay Buente (1) saved the game with one and one-thirds scoreless innings.

Mobile took an early lead one a second inning Pedro Ciriaco single up the middle that scored Cyle Hankerd for a 1-0 lead.

The Suns jumped ahead in the fourth inning, scoring on an error by Mobile third baseman Ricardo Sosa and again on a Bryan Petersen single for a 2-1 advantage.

In the fifth inning, the Suns took advantage of three Mobile errors while scoring five runs on three hits for a 7-1 lead. Brad Davis, Tim Torres and Scott Cousins drove in runs during the frame.

Mobile added a run in the sixth on a Cyle Hankerd sacrifice fly and two more runs in the seventh inning on a two-run double from James Skelton to finish the scoring at 7-4.

Suns LH Aaron Thompson will face BayBears RH Barry Enright in game four of the series Sunday at 3:05 p.m. at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The ZOOperstars will perform during the game, and after the game kids run the bases, sponsored by La-Z-Boy.
